HELLO I’M
Stephen Ssenkaaba
I am a Ph.D. candidate in communication and media studies at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC). My research explores the socio-cultural implications of digital technologies for journalism in Africa-with emphasis on how journalists in indigenous language media organizations perceive these technologies and adapt them to their social and cultural contexts. My doctoral dissertation explores how journalists in indigenous language media organizations incorporate digital technologies in their work. Some of my research is under review in Digital Journalism and the International Journal of Communication journals. I have presented my research at the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) conferences and served as a reviewer at both conferences. I am currently serving as international liaison officer for the Language & Social Interaction Division of the International Communication Association (ICA). For more than 10 years I worked as a journalist, specializing in feature writing and online journalism at The New Vision newspaper in Uganda. I produced the company’s first podcast.
